What is a volunteer code and what does it save?
A volunteer code starts with VN- and lets the assistant remember your interests next time. It saves your boroughs, causes, skills, free days, and which opportunities you were shown. It is not a login or a password.

Who this applies to
This applies if you want the assistant to remember you between chats, or you want to check on a request you made.
How it works
- Look at your matches and see if you like them.
- Say yes when the assistant asks if it may remember your interests.
- Write down the VN- code it gives you.
- Give the code at the start of a later chat.
- The assistant welcomes you back and suggests something new.
What to know
- The assistant saves preferences only if you say yes.
- The code is not a password and there is no account behind it. Do not share it publicly.
- The assistant uses the saved list of what you were shown so it can offer new opportunities.
- If you give an old code, the same record is updated.
- A new chat without your code starts a fresh record with a new code.
- If you give a code the assistant does not find, it treats you as a new volunteer.
- The same code lets the assistant look up the status of a coordinator request.
An example
Nina from Manhattan likes parks and seniors. After seeing three matches she says yes to being remembered and gets a VN- code. Two weeks later she gives the code, and the assistant offers new park listings instead of the old ones.
What we cannot do
- Save anything without a clear yes.
- Look up a lost code.
- Use the code to log you into an account.
Need a person?
If you want your saved record deleted, ask for a coordinator. Say "Please delete my saved record." Keep your code somewhere safe, because the assistant cannot look it up for you.
