Volunnear

Watch the Volunnear assistant at work

A portfolio project by Andrew Dell: an AI assistant that helps people find volunteer opportunities in New York City, built on Google Cloud CX Agent Studio with Twilio and Zendesk.

Deaf, hard of hearing, or need another way to reach us? The chat needs no phone call, the phone line works through the 711 relay service, and a coordinator can use the way you prefer. Accessibility and communication help

The coordinator's side of a handoff

When the assistant hands a conversation to a person, a coordinator sees it in Zendesk. These are screenshots of that workspace (a Zendesk trial, synthetic data). The panel on the right is a small app I built for it.

A Zendesk ticket for a volunteer under 18. The ticket is assigned to the Youth and minors group with high priority. The assistant's note summarizes the request. A side panel titled Volunnear handoff shows reason: minor, the volunteer code, outcome: pending, and a suggested next step to contact a parent or guardian.
A volunteer under 18 asked to help. The assistant handed off with the reason "minor", so the ticket lands in the Youth and minors group at high priority. The side panel gives the coordinator the reason, the volunteer code, and what to do next.
A Zendesk ticket for a group request, now pending. A coordinator's internal note says dates and headcount were confirmed with the organization. The Volunnear handoff side panel shows reason: group or corporate, outcome: group arranged, and the volunteer's profile with borough Queens and interest in food.
A group request after the coordinator acted. The outcome is "group arranged", and the profile shows what the volunteer asked the assistant to remember. This outcome is what the volunteer hears when they return with their code (the third replay above). Internal notes stay with the coordinators: the assistant reports only the status, reason, and outcome.
