Volunnear

Does Volunnear reimburse transit or expenses?

No. Volunnear does not reimburse transit or other costs, unless an opportunity says it does. A few programs give MetroCards or meals, and the listing says so.

Who this applies to

This applies if travel, food, or supplies would be a cost for you.

How it works

  1. Read each listing for any note about MetroCards, meals, or supplies.
  2. Search in your own borough to keep travel short.
  3. Ask for remote opportunities if travel is a problem.
  4. Ask the organization before your shift if cost is a barrier.

What to know

  • Volunnear itself pays for nothing.
  • A few programs give MetroCards or meals.
  • When a listing does not mention any help, the assistant does not know of any.
  • The organization is the one to ask about a cost it might cover.
  • Remote opportunities have no travel cost.
  • Gloves and safety gear are provided by the organization when a role needs them.

An example

Carlos lives in the Bronx and a shift in Staten Island would cost him two long train rides. He asks for opportunities in his own borough and finds a food pantry nearby. One Bronx listing mentions a meal, which he did not need to ask for.

What we cannot do

  • Repay you for fares, parking, or supplies.
  • Promise that an organization will help with costs.
  • Give a dollar amount for any benefit.

Need a person?

If cost may stop you from volunteering, ask for a coordinator. Say "I cannot afford the travel for this shift. Are there options?"
